To mark (and critique) the first 100 days of President Donald Trump’s second term in office, the contributing authors of the Avon Hills Salon have each prepared commentary reflecting their own interests and perspectives. Their pieces are each short— by design —and focused on particular aspects of the initial months of the second Trump administration.
The tradition of marking the “first hundred days” of a new presidential administration can be traced to an address FDR gave in June of 1933, marking that milestone in his own administration (remember: inauguration day was in March back then, rather than January!). In the decades since the media have taken up that charge by treating the 100 day mark as a time for stock-taking and evaluation. We do the same here.
To this package of reflection we are happy to add the following editorial cartoon by a master of the art— Jack Ohman —published elsewhere on April 30th. It is reprinted with his permission and our gratitude.
